Yes, in moderation: There are no contraindications to drinking alcohol while taking valacyclovir for oral herpes. Contraindications/cautions include: hypersens to drug/class/compon, caution if immunocompormised, advanced hiv, renal impairment, concurrent nephrotoxic agents, elderly, if dehydrated. Getting drunk may not be safe to yourself and/or to others, however. That's why i suggest drinking in "moderation".

Not wise,,,: Although there's no noted contraindication to doing this, it's generally not a good idea to drink alcohol with any drug, especially large amounts of alcohol that can affect the metabolism and concentration of that drug, and increase side effects.  Having said that, it's unlikely that a glass of wine or small amount of alcohol would be significant, unless it is a major contraindication for the drug

Alcohol: Alcohol can interact with medication and cause either additive effect (toxicity) or lowers potency of medication. The only safe medicine that comes to mind is placebo (sugar pill).

Is alcohol safe: The answer to this question very much depends on the medications you are taking.  Certain medication can have a serious interactions with alcohol and others will not.  In this matter, your pharmacist is a great reference.  Ask the pharmacist where you get most of your prescriptions filled.

Yes: You should definitely avoid flagyl, an antibiotic that will cause vomiting if taken with alcohol. You should also avoid taking any ssri's - antidepressants such as prozac, celexa, zoloft, lexapro, Paxil (paroxetine) - as the combination of these medications and alcohol can cause nausea and increased anxiety symptoms.

Not recommended: Alcohol, when mixed with propranolol, may increase plasma levels of propranolol.  Moderation as always the key. Ask your physician for more information.

No.: Most antibiotics can be taken with alcohol, at least in moderation, and there are little possible side effects, but Bactrim is not one of those.Bactrim and alcohol are problematic because it’s part of a class of drugs called sulfa, and if you combine alcohol and Bactrim it can lead to serious reactions.
