help please! could celiac disease cause gastritis in stomach?

Possibly: I have seen many patients with celiac disease that have inflammation in other parts of their upper GI tract (i.e. esophagus or stomach). The key would be to start by going gluten free and see if symptoms resolve. If they do not, your doctor may consider another endoscopy to see how your stomach is doing.

i had endoscopy. i have gastritis and mild duodenal villi blunting. some bile was found in stomach. no celiac disease. what could cause this?

Unclear.: There are many potential causes of gastritis, including bacterial infection and medications. The other findings, duodenal villi blunting and bile in the stomach are nonspecific. Regardless, the only way to sort out what is causing these problems in you is to follow up with your endoscopist. It is very likely  that he took biopsies or other tests to try to sort this out. i have celiac disease and wonder if corn is causing my stomach to feel like i'm having an episode?

Corn  / Gluten?: Corn does not contain typical gluten and is generally considered safe for those with celiac disease.  However, if feel you are having an episode you can cut out corn and see if things improve.  If you are having an episode it is important to see your doctor and work with them to try to pinpoint the cause.

Ruq: Right upper quadrant pain can be from the gallbladder or gas distension from the colon, you ne to see your doctor to determine what is going on.

Perhaps: A mostly gluten-free diet may not be helpful for those with gluten intolerance but may be helpful for those with wheat allergy. The blood tests for gluten intolerance is accurate when a person is consuming gluten.  Consider seeing an allergist to help you sort this out.

Accepted Answer

No: Celiac disease, especially if one has symptoms or small intestine inflammation/damage, does increase one's risk of small intestine cancer (adenocarcinoma, lymphoma). The increased risk may go to normal if one stays on a completely gluten free diet and stops having intestinal symptoms for many years. Celiac disease is not a risk factor for stomach cancer, according to the american cancer society.

Celiac blood test: A celiac blood test that looks at various antibodies - to gliadin, endomyseal and transglutaminase can be very helpful.  The gold standard however remains a small bowel .Biopsy.

GIST: GI strongly tumor (GIST) should be removed when diagnosed, not observed with endoscopy except under rare circumstances. Ask about a consultation with a surgical oncologist. GIST's have variable malignant potential, an can only be properly evicted in the pathology lab. Things like tumor size, Motorola activity and a variety of pathology stains are needed. Yes: These symptoms can be associated with celiac disease, but not necessarily. There are simple blood tests that can help rule it out, see your physician.

i have stomach problems and bloodwork came  back with  signs of celiacs disease&the syptoms make sense. is it possible  to mistake thirst  for hunger?

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Thirst and hunger are hard to get mixed up and thirst is not associated with celiac disease either.  Are you a mouth-breather?
