hi! i've had mild tonsil stones for years. recently, one seems to be lower on the tonsil & under the skin. will it come out on its own? is it a stone?

: It is not uncommon that people have tonsillar hypertrophy due to recurrent tonsillitis may be prominent unilaterally. Stones come out from the crater will be more from the bigger one. If one tonsil is bigger the anterior pillars (flaps of oral mucosa in front of the tonsils) are also different. You have nothing to worry if those findings have not changed for quite some time.

i got some germs from my tonsil/ tonsil stones while cleaning onto my facial skin by accident . i have acne and ingrown hair and im very prone to skin issues. will the tonsil / mouth bacteria get into my skin and cause more acne issues or skin issue?

: Your normal mouth bacteria shouldn't be a problem for your facial skin. However bacteria from an abcessed tooth or from a tonsillar abcess could complicate your facial acne.

Try a Water Pik.: An oral irrigator or dental water jet device such as a Water Pik can be used to rinse out stones without traumatizing the tonsil tissues. Use it in its gentlest setting to prevent gagging. In difficult cases, see an ENT doctor.  Avoid using objects such as Q-tips or your finger to manually express stones from the tonsil, as this can cause more serious pain and predispose to infection.

Cryptic tonsils: As some people get older, their tonsils lose their smooth surface and become pitted or cryptic.  The purpose of the tonsils is to sample debris (food as well as cellular debris) to help determine if is dangerous or not to the body.  It then compacts the debris and gets rid of it.  This happens in every person with tonsils.  However, if the tonsils are cryptic, the debris is larger and noticeable.
