No, but . . .: Mouth cancer (oral cancer) is not transmitted by kissing. However, doctors believe that some throat cancers are caused by strains of HPV (human papilloma virus). HPV causes genital warts and cervical cancer. Researchers are trying to find out if vaccines like Gardasil can prevent some throat cancers, because oral sex transmits HPV viruses from one&#x27;s genitals into a partners mouth and throat.

Yes: There is no 'safe' length of time to smoke before the risk of cancer kicks in. Also, cancers often have many contributing causes--so smoking can be just part of the picture.  Your best bet is to quit today.  if you have mouth symptoms and you're worried it could be cancer, then see your doctor and discuss this.  Your doc might recommend further evaluation, treatment, or other expert opinion.

Probably not.: This usually takes a long time to devolop.  Patients usually present ove age 50.  Alcohol and tobacco use (also smokeless) are risk factors.  This usually presenta as a nonhealing ulcer that can be painful.  I would advise stopping tobacco use from now on.

YES: Rare, but can happen.
Be especially concerned in a tobacco user- even if not using very long. Also associated with ebstein-barr virus exposure.
