: Beware of simplistic health statements; always consider context. That syphilis CAN be transmitted by kissing and skin to skin contact isn't the same as saying it actually happens. It's GENITAL skin-skin contact (during sex) that transmits syphilis; hand-genital contact never is a risk. Kissing is higher risk than hand-genital, but only prolonged and vigorous kissing, usually in sex between men.

if i was exposed to syphilis from kissing, how long does it take for me to become contagious by kissing someone else? should i take doxypep for this exposure?

: If your kissing partner has documented chancre or other proved syphilitic lesion of the mouth, this would be sufficiently high risk to warrant doxy-PEP. Otherwise probably not. Doxy-PEP has only been studied in relation to anal sex in MSM, not kissing.
