how to tell the difference between an eye infection caused by a sinus infection or pink eye?

When it's caused...: ...By a sinus infection and there's redness and swelling around the eye, that's called periorbital  or preseptal cellulitis.  When there is no or minimal swelling, but there is redness and pain and maybe discharge, that's pinkeye.  Note that you can have both at once,  that periorbital cellulitis can happen without a sinus infection, and sometimes it can be hard to distinguish which came first.

Chicken or Egg: Eye infections will drain into your inner nasolacrimal duct into your nose and sinuses. It is not uncommon to have patients with sinus infections and pink eye. Which one happens first can vary and  whether or not one causes the other is sometimes hard to say.

From someone else: If you yourself are not infected with a cold or upper respiratory infection,  then you most likely came into contact with someone or something that was carrying the virus. Once you came into contact with the virus you touched your eye and infected it.

Most : Most likely you have strained your back from being sick, but rarely infections may spread through your blood to your back and cause an infection in your back.  I would recommend being checked out by your primary care doctor.

Hard to say: Augmentin is unlikely to provide any relief for pinkeye. Since pinkeye is a general term for anything that makes your eye pink, it is hard to guess whether it needs a separate treatment. If allergies, dust or viral it would respond to eye wash/artificial tears. If bacterial it would likely need specific drops.

Serious interaction: Lexapro and azithromycin have a potentially serious interaction that can cause a heart rhythm disturbance.  Call your doctor immediately to let him/her know that you are taking lexapro and have been prescribed azithromycin.
