Food allergy: This type of reaction can cause swelling of the lips, tongue , and lower throat . It does not typically cause the  tonsils to swell.

See your dentist: Many salivary gland disorders have very similar symptoms. The main symptom of salivary gland disorders is irritated or swollen salivary glands. There are many tests that can diagnose salivary gland disorders. These tests help determine the cause of salivary gland symptoms. See your dentist for evaluation, diagnosis and possible referral to a specialist.

Hard to know: I would not risk it since your response was so severe.  You may get allergy doctor to run allergy test on you and see if you still positive for it.

Possibly: with breads,alleries can be multiple: eggs, glutem, milk and yeast can all cause allergic reactions in susceptible patients.

Not Safe: If you are allergic, it is not safe. Have yourself tested, and if that is not possible, refrain from coming into contact with any coconut products until such time you can be tested.

Unlikely: Oral allergy syndrome per se is highly unlikely to cause any throat closure.  However avoidance of the offending food or fruit is still the best treatment.

Rarely: Some may benefit from tonsillectomy if they develop sleep apnea symptoms in early to middle childhood. Most allergic kids will not.
