Rosacea: Rosacea affects the eyes causing blepharitis and keratitis.   You should make an appointment with an ophthalmologist to find out what's going on and to discuss your treatment options.

Chronic diseases: These diseases are chronic in nature but can be controlled with treatment.  Treatments include artificial tears during the day, warm compresses and scrubs, oral tetracycline agent, ointment at night, and other medications depending related issues.

using metronidazole (netrogel) on face for rosacea. however, i also have this breakout around my eyes. is it ok to use around my eye?

See your doctor: Metronidazole gel is meant for use on the skin. Because it is not an ophthalmic preparation, it is generally not recommended to apply on or near the eyelid.  If your breakout is near your eyelids, have your doctor evaluate it to determine if you have ocular rosacea or seborrhiec dermatitis of the eyes. Treatment depends on the diagnosis.

See opthalmologist: Optician specializes in refraction and not diseases. Allergy is associated with itchy as would be ocular rosacea.  I suspect that your problem is more likley form dry eye.

derm prescribed moxonidine 200mg x 2 /week for redness associated with rosacea.  at 51 i  have hot/cold flashes, dry mouth/eyes and palpitations. (ectopics) will any of these symptoms improve or get worse on this medication?

papulopustular rosacea well controlled by soolantra. now have eye symptoms  (see above) in both eyes.  is this ocular rosacea or age related dy eyes?  what is the defining difference? also treated for two bacterial infections  in last three months.

Possibly 1 or both: rosacea can do this, but so can dry eye syndrome. Would suggest see an ophthalmologist to test for dry eye and sjogrens. Might treat with low dose doxy and use various types of eye drops as well.
