Protonix (pantoprazole): Hello, the most common side effects of Protonix (pantoprazole) are GI related. If you have been taking this medication for a long time, i would think your headache and dizziness are not due to this medication.

IBS: Protonix (pantoprazole) is not the treatment of choice for IBS. IF you have all the complaints above, you need to make sure to clean your diet. Eat more suits and vegetable to give you more fiber. Avoid high fatty food. Drink a lot of water. Try some pepermint oil. Ask you doctor about medication options for IBS

Reflux likely: The pain location and quality indicate its origin is in the esophagus or stomach. It could be under-treated gastroesophageal reflux. However, at this point further testing might be indicated to ensure other diagnoses are not missed.

pud  x3 yr, h. pylori (eradicated), then nsaids - many egds and i have taken protonix daily with good response but then recurrent after 3-6mos.  i also have hashimoto's - do you think the cause is hypogastremia? waiting for serum gastrin results.

PPI's: Chronic use of PPI medications cause loss of stomach acid and vitamin B12 deficiency and elevated gastrin levels. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a common cause of hypothyroidism.  You would have to check gastrin levels after being off ppi's for awhile to see whether high gastrin levels are your problem. Your gastroenterologist can advise you best about these matters and cause of recurrent peptic ulcer

Yes: A balanced diet with significant limitation of food with irritant potential on the stomach, such as spicy or acid, is recommended. If overweight, losing weight may help with reflux symptoms, if any. Follow up with your treating physician as recommended.

does protonix (pantoprazole) cause psoriasis to flare?

Possibly: There are certain medication that are well known to flare psoriasis.  The most common ones are beta blockers and lithium.  There are many others, but they occur on a much less frequent basis.  I would see a dermatologist to find out if the Protonix (pantoprazole) may be causing a flare.  More likely, flares are due to stress, smoking, and other things.

ive been taking pepcid twice daily for over a year, after getting off protonix. how long should i take (1) pepcid daily for me to be properly tapered off of it? i dont want acid rebound like i had when i got off protonix. thanks!

Pepcid: For what condition are taking pepcid? If it's for history of  severe esophagitis, severe GERD or a peptic ulcer you'll want to be guided by a gastroenterologist. If you have been totally symptom free, it's reasonable to stop pepcid and conscientiously follow dietary advice and sensible intake of alcohol, caffeine, aspirin and NSAiD medications.

THC protonix (pantoprazole): Yes a false positive test can be obtained but only on the urine dipstick - with the quantitative test there is no false results.

can protonix (pantoprazole) cause magnesium deficiencies or nerve problems?

Accepted Answer

Yes: This drug is often associated with magnesium deficiency if taken for a long time. Magnesium supplement is recommended. Vit B12 may be low as well and may lead to damages to the nerves.  Watch for iron deficiency due to the suppression of acid.  Supplements should be considered.
