Yes Pink Eye: A pink eye can be due to many things. Classically a "pink eye" is due to viral conjunctivitis and can be very contagious with severe itchiness. If you do have true pink eye, the most natural way to treat it is cold ice packs for itchiness; cold tears in refrigerator helps also. If severe an eyemd can rx stronger drops. Maybe: Reddish discoloration of the eyes is common in upper respiratory infections, and may not always be associated with a viral conjunctivitis (commonly called "pink eye"). The mucous membrane lining the sinuses is connected to the conjunctiva via a small canal (the nasolacrimal duct). Thus any inflammation in the sinuses can carry over into the eye as well, and it can be very asymmetric.

Self limited: Pink eye is self limited, just make sure your one year old does not have clogged tear ducts.  In a one year old this could mimic pink eye.  An ophthalmologist should exam your child to rule this out as well as more serious conditions if this persists.

Not needed: It sounds like someone near to you has had pink eye/  This usually clears up in 3-10 days depending upon the virus.  One treatment of anything that person has touched will prevent  an infection from spreading.  Pink eye at its worst is uncomfortable but not dangerous.

Super-infection: There can many times be a bacterial infection on top of a viral (herpes) infection.  This is called superinfection.  The antibiotic will help remove such possibility, but probably best to also include an antiviral treatment like Acyclovir along with that.

: Maybe adenovirus, which is a respiratory virus (common cold) often with conjunctivitis (pink ey) but can affect the genital area. All your symptoms fit. It should improve in the next few days. Harmless, even if uncomfortable. Antibiotic won't help.
