hi doctor.. i took 2 tabs of gynaecosid after my period has been delayed for 5 days and i had unprotected sex 2 days after taking gynaecosid but the flow is yet to come. what should i do? should i take prostinor 2 to prevent unwanted pregnancy?

: I hope you took Gynaecosid because of missed period not because you had been afraid of pregnancy. You should know that this medication is not an abortion pill and it may cause incomplete abortion with bleeding complication.
You less likely got pregnant after a missed period and taking Gynaecosid.

after i removed my iud on january 27th 2022, i have never received my periods. on 9th march i took i was given gynaecosid tablet to take for 2days. i haven't received my periods one month after taking the medicine and i'm not pregnant. please help?

: At "39" there may be a time of "pre-menopause" , leading to gaps in menstruation due to refractory response by aging follicles (eggs) in the ovaries...this delay in ovulation will of course delay a true mentstrual event, and usually a more regular sequence will be re-established, with a higher FSH level to produce more predictable menstruation.  Ask your GYN about low dose oral BCP's.

is it okay to take postinor when one isnt sure if the sex was safe? and what is the effect if one take postinor to a safe sex?

: Postinor is only an emergency contraceptive. Postinor is used to prevent pregnancy when it is taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. It has been estimated that Postinor will prevent 85% of expected pregnancies &amp; works best the earlier it is taken after unprotected intercourse. Clearly practicing safe sex is more preferable. i had sex on thursday night  took postinor 2 on friday afternoon and then had another sex on saturday evening.. do i still need to take another postinor2 or the recent one is still effective?

Contraception ?'s: Postinor 2 can be repeated, but if ovulation occurred on or near the two instances of potential pregnancy, the "protection" is not 100%.  If your period is delayed, wait until a week after it is due, and obtain a serum HCG test to be certain about pregnancy.

Accepted Answer

Emergency contracept: Emergency contraception should be used within 72 hours of unprotected sex to decrease the risk of pregnancy by about 70%. It is not 100% effective. IT should not be used as your primary birth control. Since you are having to use it often it would be a better option to start birth control. This would give you more protection.

You can: Take it again if needed. Remember, emergency contraception is 95% effective and by repeatedly taking a chance you are increasing chances of having to face the consequence of failure. Discuss birth control with a physician.

Accepted Answer

Unlikely: Although it is indicated to use both tablets, even one will greatly reduce the chance of conceiving the pregnancy.  If you are still within 72 hours of the act of unprotected sex, you can still take the other one and it will help.

Agree with Dr. F: If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD.

Do not take any more: You should take the first pill of the Postinor-2 pack as soon as possible. An hour is good. The directions state the second pill should be taken 12 hours after the first ... so you took that one a little early. Probably ok. YOU DON'T NEED ANY MORE; ANOTHER ONE WILL PROBABLY DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD! You have an excellent chance of not being pregnant;you won't know FOR SURE until you get your periled
