Only difference is: Let your provider know about this side effect. This is the only way they can provide the best treatment choices, they need to know. Otherwise, do what you'd normally do w/ respect to diarrhea. Diet choices and OTC remedies (follow directions) and drink lots of water. How do you know it's caused by Prozac (fluoxetine)? Again, discuss w/ Dr. best!

Consider switch: In general it is not wise to add another medication to treat a side effect, unless the original medication is doing a stellar job in every way except for the single side effect. After all, you might have a side effect with the added one, &amp; then you need another for it &amp; so on. There are many other SSRIs &amp; other medications similar that may be effective without apathy instead of Prozac (fluoxetine). Good luck!

after my dads stroke, his dr put him on prozac and remeron (mirtazapine) to help him sleep! can these 2 drugs together cause severe mood changes? what do i do?

Yes: I would not use either drug with a patient who has had a stroke, as the adverse effect profile might present in a far more intense fashion, especially suicide risks with Prosac.  I personally feel uncomfortable with the approach, and recommend a visit to a geriatrician or psychiatrist to get this straightened out.

is it ok to take albuterol as needed while i take prozac (fluoxetine)? i saw on the drug interaction checker this can cause arrythmias? i have bad asthma.

Yes: If you need albuterol for rescue treatment don't avoid it because you are taking Prozac (fluoxetine). If you are requiring albuterol frequently make an appointment with primary doctor so that you can get your asthma worked up, sounds like you are poorly controlled. You might need to step up therapy with controller meds. Good luck.

i'm taking prozac (fluoxetine) for ocd but it causes insomnia and and anorexia, is there a  safe drug can treat these side effects, i tried olanzapone but not work?

Yes: other antipsychotics such as  seroquel [ quetiapine] can alleviate  these  side effects and also lessen  OCD

Stop the combination: Serotonin syndrome when the two medications are taken together. Serotonin syndrome can be serious and even life threatening. It is the result of high levels of serotonin in the body. Serotonin syndrome is characterized by having at least three of these listed symptoms: tremor, shivering, agitation, diaphoresis fever, hyper-reflexia incoordination or myoclonus.Stop taken the two madication together.

General malaise: Many diseases manifest by general malaise: weakness, fatigue, gastrointestinal discomfort, dizziness or lightheadedness. Consult doctor for specific signs of disease in systems of body function. Depression may cause many of them. Discontinuation of an antidepressant may cause flu-like symptoms or relapse of the depressive episode. Follow your doctor's recommendations as possible.

i got diagnosed with adhd and depression and currently on methylphenidate and prozac, i have taken prozac for 5 months and methylphenidate for 2 weeks. and after i have a really low sex drive and i can't maintain an erection? is it caused by it?

: Would think that medication adverse effects are responsible for your sexual changes.  Not unusual, but also hard to say this will improve over time if medication is continued, as you may not adapt.  Best to discuss this with your doctor ASAP, and make decisions about changing medication or doses of current drugs.

Poop out: Unfortunately antidepressant poop-out isn't rare. This may happen with any antidepressant. Strategies to overcome this can include: a different antidepressant (especially combination ssri-snri), use of atypical antipsychotic (e.g. Abilify), or methyl donor such as same or folic acid.

hi. male and 40. couldn't orgasm tonight.  recently went to er for uti and dehydration. on bactrim, (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) trazedone, and prozac. do these drugs cause this?

Possible: Both Prozac (fluoxetine) and Trazodone can cause decreased libido as side effects. You are taking two antidepressants. Not clear why this is necessary. Suggest you discuss with prescribing doctor to review these meds and consider lower dose(s). I hope this helps. Best wishes.
