: It would take more than a couple of tablespoonfuls of Metamucil to cause diarrhea. If Metamucil overuse is the cause of diarrhea it should stop within a day or two of stopping the intake of Metamucil.

Metamucil: Metamucil shouldn't cause diarrhea because it is mostly fiber that absorbs and retains water to make loose stools less watery. Your diarrhea may be related to other conditions and if it persists, i would contact your doctor.

i have isb (c&d) here lately it is only c. i take benefiber (cant take metamucil) and 2 dulcolax, but if i take the 2, i wind up with awful diarrhea, like you go before you make it to the toilet for abou 8-12 hours. is there anything else i can take?

: If you have not tried PEG (miralax, an OTC laxative), you should, you can easily adjust the dose ad lib. If miralax does not work, you need med by prescription such as lubiprostone or linaclotide and plecanatide .

: I think it could be the cause. Cut back on the amount or, instead drink plenty of fluids,get fiber from veggies &amp; fruits,exercise to avoid constipation.

CHANGED STOOLS: It seems normal stools of someone on Metamucil and you do not have to worry about that and avoid constipation will help hemorroids as well.

: Metamucil is a fiber supplement that adds bulk to your stool, allowing it to be more formed. it is to be taken regularly, once or twice a day. It would make sense that if it has been some time since you took it (more than 6 hours) your poop will be thinner and less formed, since it takes an average of 3-6 hours for waste to work its way through the intestines.

i am 79, have ibs for 40 years, been taking metamucil for years now getting diarrhea every morning for over 1 year, not complete d there is formed b m with it had a rectal prolapse repaired 8 years have more bm problems since. metamucil not helping?

Mistaken: Psyllium and metamucil would not generally be preferred agents for acute diarrhea. Loperamide - an opioid agonist -  is generally preferred unless you have a specific type of diarrhea which would be better treated with another specific agent.

Balanced diet: Sometimes having the right set of carbohydrates and fiber is key. A detailed history on how much you are eating, how often your are eating, any medical problems can be helpful. If already diagnosed with IBS then some IBS medicine may help you. Fruits, vegetables, mediterranean diet may be helpful at having regular movements. Please see your doctor as soon as you can.
