No, but yes . . .: Typically, over-the-counter medications (not to be confused w/dietary supplements) are half-dose versions of their branded prescription-only counterparts. However, Meclizine appears to be an exception as it is available by prescription only as Antivert (meclizine) and available over-the-counter as dramamine, both at the same doses. So can you buy Antivert (meclizine) otc? No. But you can buy dose-equivalent dramamine.

Your risk: You can try it.  Maybe there's enough active ingredient after 3 years past expiration date to work for you. Otherwise, you might want to obtain more, or have another plan like wrist bands or other solutions if you become motion sick.

Vertigo: Meclizine is not effective for your condition. It may work to treat nausea and reduce motion sickness. You need to see an ENT doctor for an actual evaluation especially given your history of SLE and being on Imuran (azathioprine). You may be experiencing acute ototoxicity.

Not Really: I don't think it will help much, just might make you drowsy. How about a very good book? It teaches cognitive behavioral therapy. The book is: stop obsessing by edna foa. If any medication helps, 90% of the time, the panic will come back when the medicine is stopped. The book will help you learn to free yourself of panic attacks and perhaps be able to avoid potentially addictive medications.

See neurologist: You detail symptoms but no diagnosis. Antivert (meclizine) is helpful but not the only medicine o treat this problem. First, we need a correct diagnosis to determine if this is a blood pressure, inner ear, brain stem, or other cause. Then, can the best treatment can follow.

Expiration date: Virtually all food/medicine products sold in us have an expiration date before which it is guaranteed most effectiveness for what the medicine can do. This only means as time pass, the medicine slowly deteriorates and thus becomes less and less effective. For example: if the med is to expire 12/31/12, it should still be good 1/1/13, but may not be in 9/1/15 etc.. Consult doc. Good luck.
