It can be caused by extrinsic compression (which you believe is the cause in your case), stricture, or disordered peristalsis (muscular contraction). The problem can be muscular or neurologic. Specialized testing can determine with great precision what the exact cause is for you. Treatment, of course, is dependent on the cause.

Not necessarily: We can't tell whether lymph nodes are cancerous or not just by feeling them for movement.  The only way to know for sure is to obtain tissue from the lymph node with either a needle biopsy or more definitively, an open biopsy that removes all or part of the node.

Yes: If lymph nodes become smaller are not cancer and probably was because of infection.

Lymphadenopathy: If the palpable nodes in neck don't go away within a few weeks, then see a doctor about a history, physical, and lab work.  At your age it is most likely an infection, and usually viral and self-limited.  After a few weeks, it needs a diagnosis.

Front of neck?: Lymph node tenderness usually indicates some type of inflammation ...A reaction to infection...Like a sore throat, cold flu, or other type of virus.If persists, c ur doc to check all of your lymph nodes.

: You may feel the nodes every couple of weeks, if any of the lymph glands doubles in size, becomes painful, ulcerates, or other nodes become enlarged, or you develop fever, or lose weight, you should see a doctor. Wish you good health!

Monitoring System: The lymphatic system absorbs and carries things too big to go into the arteries and veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food.  The lymph nodes "taste" the lymph to see if anything bad is there like bacteria, viruses, cancers, etc.  When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts.  They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react.
