May be later: You may need more than blood work to rule out liver cancer, e.g., ct scan.  However, chronic hepatitis c does put you at risk for liver cancer.  You should consider getting treated for hep c as it is possible to rid a person of the hep c virus.

I'm : I'm not sure what liver value you're referring to.  A routine liver test includes six or seven tests, and a more detailed liver study might include another 4 or so. Of these, several might be considered high at a level of 75, but what they mean when they're high differs greatly. An ultrasound of the liver is a pretty simple and totally painless way to get a quick overview of what's going on.  It might show anything from gallstones or an increased level of fat in the liver to a tumor of some kind (many of which are completely benign).

If you can provide a bit more information about the tests in question, maybe i can give a more helpful response.

Useful in liver fail: Lactulose like you have suggested, is commonly used for the treatment of chronic liver failure due to cirrhosis. In your case, liver cancer has complicated this matter by adding another complication. So the value of Lactulose will be limited and questionable. yet it is relatively harmless especially if you have problem with constipation.

: There is no specific blood test that diagnoses any of these cancers. But, there is blood work that would show non-specific inflammation. You would need imaging studies, like a CT scan to document cancer in these areas. See a GI doctor if you are concerned. Good luck!

Cirrhosis : Cirrhosis and certain other liver disease (such as hepatitis and hemochromatosis) are associated with liver cancer, but one does not necessarily follow the other.  It is not uncommon to follow liver function tests (lfts) for these conditions, and abnormal results could potentially indicate a tumor.  Again, one-does not follow the other--you can have liver cancer with normal lfts and you can have abnormal lfts without cancer.

One blood test that does specifically look for liver cancer is called Alpha fetoprotein (afp).  A sudden rise in AFP would be worrisome.

The risk of liver cancer goes up dramatically in people with hepatitis if they also drink alcohol.  If your mother does have a risk of hepatitis and/or cirrhosis, she should not drink at all.

AFP not on CMP: Hi. No, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is not on a comprehencive metabolic panel (CMP). AFP can be run on same tube if sample size is adequate, but it is a completely separate test. AFP elevation is NOT specific for liver cancer, and can be seen in other liver diseases and other cancers. Good luck!

Need to ask your ono: Your oncologist can help. Anemia can be caused by blood loss(which is common in patients with cirrhosis(GI blood loss due to varices).
Poor blood formation is also common(Anemia of chronic disease). Blood transfusion can help the pateint. Keep Hemoglobin near 10 Grams.
There is some treatment for Liver cancer that could be tried(the medicine is called Nexavar(Sorafenib)
