Nightmares: Several possibilities -- among them, being on medications that are associated with nightmares, such as narcotics, antidepressants, and some antihypertensives.  Drug and alcohol withdrawal can cause it.  Also nightmares can certainly come with ptsd, anxiety, and depression.  Sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome can lead to nightmares as well. See your doctor for help with this problem.

Medical reason for ?: Not really , but people  who has experienced  or witnessed  a trauma  may have night mares , flashback , avoidance and  hyperarousal

Nightmares: Nightmares can come from many sources, including medications you're taking or withdrawing from.  Also, traumatic events can come back in our dreams as nightmares. Relationships that break up are generally troubled before the actual end, and this type of situation can be upsetting too.  You could work with a therapist on these things. Hopefully the nightmares will resolve - and you will grow, also.
