Pregnancy test: A home test is reliable 1-2 days before an expected period, you can do one then. There is absolutely nothing that is reliable before then. I hope you do not stress, but if you do it won't stop you conceiving "stress is not a contraceptive." Good wishes.

Immediately : The length of time you were on birth control pills has no effect on how long it takes to get pregnant. Normal ovulation resumes almost immediately. Usually within 1 to 2 weeks. If you want to get pregnant have sex around ovulation time. I'm wondering why it age 19 though you're in a rush to get pregnant? Have you thought about the impact this will have on the rest of your life?

This : This type of bleeding is a result of an anovulatory cycle (meaning you did not ovulate this month). The uterine lining builds up and sheds in an abnormal pattern when this happens. The brown blood is usually old blood that has been "stuck" in the uterus for longer than a month, and when it finally comes out it is brown in color.
Keep up with the metformin, try to lose weight, and follow up with your doctor.

Evaluation : The most helpful step will be to see your obgyn or fertility specialist and to undergo a basic evaluation for possible infertility. Infertility could be due to female factors, male factors or a combination of both. The quicker you will find  the reason the quicker it will be to find a solution. Don't be discouraged and just go for it , your young age is a huge positive factor.
