can i take advil and celebrex (celecoxib) together?

Advil (ibuprofen): Both are nsaids. So there is an increase chance of side effects, primarily gi. Although I do have patients who take Celebrex (celecoxib) daily for arthritis and use Ibuprofen sparingly for headaches.

No advil (ibuprofen): Advil and Celebrex are in the same class of medications and should not be combined.  You should also stay away from Aspirin and aleve(naproxen).  Tylenol (acetaminophen) is ok with Celebrex as long as there is no other reason for you to avoid it. If you are unsure, check with your doctor.

why is it when i take celebrex im so tired for a couple of hrs? wondered if i should just take advil instead, whats in it thats doing that?

Unusual: Fatigue or weakness is a most unusual side effect of celebrex in my experience. It is an anti-inflammatory that is more gentle on your stomach than other anti-inflammatory medications. You could try taking Advil or Aleve with food to see if you tolerate them better.

Stick with cheap: Stick with advil or aleve . The over-the-counter forms are cheap. Celebrex (celecoxib) is prescription only and very expensive. They all have similar effectiveness.

i take celebrex (celecoxib) with no problem.  when i take aleve, advil, motrin, i break out in hives. aren't they all nsaids?  am i alergic?

Yes and no: Celebrex (celecoxib) and advil are different classes of nsaids so you could be allergic to one and not the other just like you could be allergic to penicillin but not to other antibiotics.

: I'd expect no serious adverse reactions with this combination with no further doses today. . If you took them on an empty stomach these meds could be irritating to the stomach lining. Celebrex and tylenol would be ok.

Advil (ibuprofen) works better: in you than celebrex (celecoxib). Some drugs work better in some people than others. I would stick to the advil.

Not really: Celebrex (celecoxib) carries significantly less GI risk than advil. The cardiac risks are low in each.

Water retention: Any of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications can cause water retention.  They can also cause high blood pressure or interfere with blood pressure medications.
