i took my first day dose of methylprednisolone (all 6 pills at once, dr said i could) at 9am and have had a rapid heartbeat, that i'm very aware of. don't want to continue dosing but is it safe to stop? was prescribed them for sciatica?

: That dose can accelerate your heart rate but it is usually a nuisance rather than anything serious. It may also impair your night's sleep. I tell my patients to take a benadryl capsule at bedtime to help them sleep.  Avoiding caffeine, chocolate and alcohol is helpful. Notify your prescribing physician if you're unable to tolerate the medication. It's safe to stop.

will i have withdrawals from taking the first six pills together of a medrol (methylprednisolone) 4mg pack today if i stop taking them? the pills made me feel very itchy.

Already answered?: But will repeat - highly unlikely that Medrol (methylprednisolone) is causing your itching . If you are on a Medrol (methylprednisolone) dospak however, it is unlikely to get a withdrawal problem from such a short term use- a few people do feel tired for a couple of days if they had experienced a stimulant effect from Medrol (methylprednisolone)- more a let-down then a withdrawal.

bad reactions to medrol (methylprednisolone). 6 pills first day then took 4 second and 2 third. should i continue to taper down? will it still help with sinus infection?

Probably: Most people with chronic sinusitis do not require 6  tab of Medrol (methylprednisolone) per day. If the side effects are very bothersome, contact your doctor to see if you should discontinue or taper down on the medrol (methylprednisolone).

i was taking 4mg medrol (methylprednisolone) pack had to stop due to stomach flu can i take the remaining 11 pills (3 x 2 days, 2 x 2 days, 1 x 1 day)?

Yes, but: If delay was &gt;2 days, and are not having worsening symptoms from what got you put on the Medrol (methylprednisolone) pack, then probably do not need to. If symptoms worse, may need to call Dr to get new pack to restart taper for benefit.

i was prescribed a methylprednisolone prednisone packet for 6 days. after the first dose of 6 pills, i feel horrible. severe insomnia, rapid heartbeat and a flare up of gastritis, is it safe to discontinue the packet after day 1?

: Although your reactions are unusual, the significance should not be ignored, and you need to contact your doctor immediately.  Your medication should be placed on hold until clarification and understanding of what has occurred is available.  It is far safer to stop your pills at this point.

Accepted Answer

Not expected: Allergy to oral Medrol (methylprednisolone) is rare if existent at all. Since it takes about 6 hours before noticeable effects can be observed, I question that Medrol (methylprednisolone) is the actual culprit.  However if subsequent dosing again leads to itching, then you will need to stop taking it and ask your doctor to provide a substitute.

i stopped taking methylprednisolone after the first two pills causing a reaction.  seven hours later having severe withdrawal symptoms. how long last?

Steroid tapering: Your symptoms may not be withdrawal.  However, when taking steroids, it is important to make a slow taper of the dosage.  Recommend to talk with your prescribing physician on how to make a slow dose reduction and try not to stop the medication suddenly.

Do you still need it: A medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack is a steroid medication and is set up so you take higher doses of steroids first and then take decreasing doses to wean you off the steroids. If you still need the medication you may need to start it again. All the best.

Yep. It's a Soup: What I meant to say, "It's a Side Effect..."  But doesn't "It's a Soup!"  .....   said in the Old World Syle of Momma Making Soup in the kitchen.....sound so much nicer?  But of course, your tachycardia may not feel very nice and may not be good for you either.....unlike Momma's soup.  So best, call the Doktor and tell them you've got this adverse effect.  Perhaps a slightly lower dose is in order

Possibly: Possibly, but use of the "dose pack" is controversial.
