Nail diseases: I believe that Lamisil (terbinafine) cream- trademark is somewhat effective for nail fungus.  That is what i think you are referring to... But there are many nail diseases, including those due to heredity, trauma, bacteria, and autoimmune diseases, even lung diseases. Please consult a dermatologist regarding the proper diagnosis and treatment of your particular nall ailment.  Good luck.

Doctor can check...: A primary care doctor or a dermatologist can examine the fingers if a person is worried about how much of the skin got sanded away. Most likely, the skin will heal up back to normal (maybe with some color changes that should  normalize over time), because if the sanding was really deep, the person would have screamed and pulled her hand away. Neosporin may help skin healing.

Underlying reason: There are a variety of medical reasons for separation of the nail from the nail bed (onycholysis), for example autoimmune diseases or fungal infections.If truly from work or injury (eg. From overenthusiastic use of the pointed end of a nail file), then avoiding injury and letting the nail grow out should take care of the problem.  If it does not improve, worthwhile to seek medical evaluation.

Splinter hemorrhage?: These may be what are called splinter hemorrhages. They can be dot-like but also needle-like. I don't think biting has anything to do with it. It would be worth having your doctor or a dermatologist look at them.

Dry nails: Nails, like skin, are prone to dryness if exposed to a harsh environments. Try to be gentler on your hands, and within 5 min of bathing or washing apply a thick hand cream to the nails and cuticles several times a day. If these simple measures don't work see a derm for a clinical evaluation and possibly blood work for anemia, thyroid, and other health issues.
