Painful: You "can" but it might be very painful with the pressure changes your ears will go thru. Normally when pressure changes, your ear adjusts to it, but if you have an ear infection this system of "adjustment" is not working. Try to postpone. If you can't, at least use specialized ear plugs for air travel (not sure how effective they will be). Good luck.

you might have to take some medicine like dramamine (dimenhydrinate) etc, so you dont feel nauseous or vomiting
and you better be accompanied by someone who can help you if you still feel dizzy
but if you can avoid it till you are better.

Ear infections: Depends what you mean by 'inner' ear infection.  A middle ear infection usually drains down the Eustachian tube into the back of throat or drains through a ruptured ear drum due to pressure, and hole in drum then usually heals.

A real 'inner' ear infection is called 'labrynthitis' or 'vestibular neuritis' and is usually inflammatory or post-viral rather than infectious, so resolves usually.

Inner ear infections: Anatomically ear is divided into external ear, middle ear( consisting of ossicles), inner ear ( consisting of cochlea, vestibular apparatus)  when you are asking about inner ear I am assuming you are asking about the middle ear ( infections may be bacterial or fungal most often) . These infections can be cured with antibiotics, or antifungals- rarely surgery.
