a doctor recently wrote that most cervical polyps are caused by hpv and my practitioner said that polyps are not caused by hpv. which is true? obgyns?

HPV -abnl cervix: Hpv is definitely related to abnormal findings on pap testing and certain strains of hpv are associated with pre cancerous changes & cancer of the cervix. So much so that hpv testing is becoming more important than pap testing. Cervical polyps may be precancerous or contain a cancer but are often due to benign causes.

understanding hpv.advised can lay dormant. recent bite of tongue(bruxism) expected diagnosis after excision was polyp. it was squamous papilloma. can't understand the hpv cause,celibate 20+yrs. smear no hpv. do i have hpv? dr said no follow up needed?

: It may be one of the many nonsexually transmitted HPV types, as are common hand and foot warts. Or maybe sexually transmitted: all sexually active persons acquire HPV, and as you already understand, HPV can be dormant for many years and then reactivate. If your doctor is an otolaryngologist or oral medicine specialist, s/he probably is very knowledgeable and you can trust the no follow-up advice.

lesion on tongue removed, initial diagnosis polyp from trauma. pathology result squamous papilloma. advised benign, no follow up,usually caused by hpv virus. does this mean i have the virus & it wasn't trauma? i have not been sexually active for yrs?

: HPV is the likely cause of the squamous papilloma. Although HPV is very contagious, some of the genetic sub-types are slow growing and may have co-existed "for years" without achieving a size where obvious, and biopsy is necessary.

what is fibroepithelial polyp of the vulva? is this hpv or is it just skin?

Accepted Answer

No it is not: This is a benign growth that can be found on the vulva or in the vagina.  It can be hormone sensitive, if someone were taking hormones.  It is not caused by HPV but to be certain, one should have a biopsy done.  I assume by this question that this has been done. No: A fibroepithelial polyp is what is commonly referred to as a skin tag. These are not related to HPV like genital warts are.

i read that 85% of colon cancer comes from polyps 15% not. what does the gi doc due for the 15%? hpv that can be cancerous tend to be in polyps?  can ct w contrast abd/plvs pic up 2cm or larger polyps?

Colonoscopy: With rare exceptions, colon cancers arise in polyps. Colonoscopy and removal of polyps can prevent colon cancer. HPV is not a causative agent of colon polyps or colon cancer. Colonoscopy is better than imaging studies as the polyps can both be detected and removed in one procedure.

Separate problems: There is no particular cause for any of these, and certainly no single thing that causes them all. These are separate problems, which I assume were detected by some sort of abdominal imaging, probably a CT scan or MRI. Speak with the doctor who ordered the test and take it from there.

ca125 test 7 months ago, raised at 54, repeat test raised at 95, pelvic ultrasound clear. repeat ca125 back down to 52. hysteroscopy - benign polyp, removed. if this rise in ca125 was caused by ovarian cancer, would i have symptoms after 7 months?

: Ca125 elevations may be caused by processes other than ovarian cancer, however, see a GYN oncologist for guidance, as not all ovarian cancer will show up on ultrasound, and a diagnostic laparoscopy may be indicated.

28 year old female with no kids
ive had an ovarian cyst removed back in 2016 and now i tested positive for hpv type 16 had my cone biopsy done 2 months ago my cervix is not stenosis cause i get my periods. can i still get pregnant in the  future?

Post cone bx ?'s: A cone biopsy may produce alterations in fertility, depending on how extensive the surgical process has been, as pregnancy does require adequate cervical lining to aid in sperm moving into the tubes/abdomen.  At some point, if pregnancy is desired, ask about a hysterosalpingogram  (HSG) to make sure your tubes are open. Pregnancy may be still very possible.

would a ovarian cyst and uterine polyp cause pelvic pain every day & back ache, shivers down legs aching legs, headaches. heavy periods.

Polyp: A uterine polyp can certainly cause heavy periods. Ask if you are a candidate for a simple minimally invasive procedure called myosure. An ovarian cyst can cause pain.
