how can you tell the difference between gas cramps & pms cramps? the pain is not the whole abdomen, just right above pubic bone area.

Timing: Gas cramps can occur at any time, may be associated with certain meals and improve with bowel movements. 
Periods cramps occur at certain times of the month, followed by bleeding and improve with motrin/ibuprofen.

Livedo reticularis: Netlike rash (livedo reticularis) could be a normal variant with cold exposure. In this case it disappears once skin is warmed up. If it is a persistent skin pattern, some investigation & possibly a skin biopsy are needed. Livedo is a vascular pattern, meaning there is some inflammation of blood vessels, which can be seen in lupus, vasculitis, certain meds & others. Please see dermatologist.

No: No studies have shown that a heating pad can improve implantation.

what is the best way to treat burn from a heating pad?

Accepted Answer

Depends on the: Depth of the burn.  Only a trained medical person can tell the depth.  If it is a heating pad burn, it is usually superficial, second degree at the most.  If it is truly only second degree, topical antibiotic ointment and occulsive dressing for a week should do it.  But, more importantly, why did you not feel the burning in the first place?  If it is on leg, you might have problems with nerves.

NO : Heating pad usually help relax the muscles /ligaments which can improve pain. Sometimes muscles around kidney can go into spasm from kidney infection called pyelonephritis and in that case a heating pad may provide temporary relief.

Maybe but...: There are lots of reasons for abdominal discomfort &amp; bloating, &amp; not all of them are due to the gynecologic tract. Even "functional" syndromes may be present without underlying "disease." however partial sbo due to metabolic &amp; inflammatory conditions nearby (like an untreated infection of the urinary tract) must be considered &amp; addressed. Check with doctor for examination &amp; treatment options.

Cold pack better: Heat often increases blood flow to an area, which might make the spleen tend to enlarge even more (and usually hurt more at minimum). Cold pack (wrap it to prevent skin injury) likely better relief w/o this risk. Be gentle until swelling down due to rupture risk & follow closely w/your dr.
