Because: Because sometimes it is discovered too late. Sometimes what can happen is people think it is just a flu or a cold and never go to the doctor. By the time they realize it is something more then just a cold or a flu it is progressed to a point where it becomes very difficult to treat.

Yes: Antibiotics are usually very successful to treat  many pneumonias. Patients with lung cancer may be more complex to treat or may require longer treatment especially if the cancer blocks the airways  which are needed to clear the pneumonia.

Pnemonia: Thogh not that common but deaths due to pneumonia still occurs in children in us.But early immunisation have definitely cut down the number of cases.But the vaccines at present only covers 7 types of pneumococcals and we still see pnemococcal pneumonia and there are other bacteria causing pneumonia as well.And some resistance to immunisation also contrbute to it.
