Possibly beneficial: Garlic, ginko, omega-3 fatty acids may act as blood thinners in varying degrees; at least they are advised against when a patient is taking prescription anti-coagulant coumadin (warfarin). Whether garlic can "clean out" the arteries is unknown; no medical studies i'm aware of. So don't rely solely on garlic. Eat healthfully, avoid bad fats, exercise regularly.

Useless: Once plaque is there the idea is to prevent FURTHER plaque from occuring and this requires DIET and (often) medications! Be wary of claims that "natural" substances of any kind actually "clear" clogged arteries.. Hope this is helpful!

Probably not.: No study has been done to answer this question so I have to answer no.

In a patient with known coronary artery disease, there is no substitute for regular follow up with a cardiologist that you know and trust. Setting up a treatment and prevention plan - and following it - is a must to reduce your risk of future problems.

None really: There are no foods that can really clean the arteries however a heart healthy diet can certainly help in prevention. Diets with appropriate calories for size & activity, fruits & vegetables, low cholesterol, low salt, limited trans & saturated fats are recommended. Regular check ups: You need to have your cholesterol checked. Stay away from fast food. Maintain a healthy weight. Don' smoke! the only test that verifies clean arteries is an angiogram which looks inside the arteries. This involves putting dye into your system and would not be used to just look for clean arteries.

Not a lost cause: If you have blockages already, tx can serve to stabilize the plaque that is present & later to try & reverse it. The former is important b/c you can have unstable plaque that is vulnerable to acute blockage (ie a heart attack) & certain tx can help prevent this. The latter is important to decrease long-term risk. It will req hard wk, determination, but you can do it w/ help from a proactive doctor.

Arteries: Please continue to see your doc and do what he/she says.  Beyond that, consider a process called chelation.  It can be done w/oral natural meds or the older and more time-consuming IV drip method.  There is lots of science to back this up but some docs may not be aware.  The TACT study is a good one.  TACT 2 is presently being formulated.  Peace and good health.
