i started getting headache after eating crab but i don't have itchiness or swelling. am i allergy to crab? but i feel fine when eating shrimp. cause?

Headache: Headache is not the usual symptom of a true food allergic reaction.  The usual symptoms are hives, itching, swelling, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, respiratory symptoms or anaphylaxis.  Most persons with crab allergy will also experience symptoms with shrimp also suggesting a different reason for the headache.  There are many reasons for headache and your physician can review that list.

what causes spicy food to give me a headache? i really enjoy eating  boiled shrimp in spicy boil but it gives me a ha and red eyes because so so hot.

Not sure but...: It could be the glutamine. An important amino acid. In Chinese cooking they frequently add MSG (Monosodium glutamate) as a flavor enhancer. There is a well described "Chines Restaurant Syndrome" which you may have. Check it out on www.mayoclinic.com

Migraine: can be triggered by any food. Is a serious and complex neurologic disorder. Unilateral throbbing headache, vertigo, visual disturbances nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, paresthesias and even chest pain may be present during the episodes. It is manageable condition. Rec. see an orofacial pain or headache specialist for evaluation and proper management.

Possibly: There is no side effect of getting headaches consuming onions. If you develop an allergy to onions, then you can get headaches.

You MAY have a: food sensitivity or allergy to something you are eating.  Great Plains Lab in Kansas has as good food sensitivity panel.  You can read up on it on their website.  Your doc can do some lab testing also.  Peace and good health.

Probably migraine: Frequently brain freeze occurs in migraine patients, and sometimes the migraines themselves give this feeling. If you have been getting headaches for a while, this is almost certainly the cause, particularly if otherwise normal. You may have some medication overuse/rebound headache as well from taking many otc pain meds. A headache neurologist should be able to help you with the appropriate meds.

Depends: Could be jaw or dental related. Tmj joint could be out of kilter, aggravated by chewy foods. Headache tends to along side of jaw and head. Put fingers on ears and open wide. If you hear clicks or feel irregular movement or crunchyness in ears it is further confirmation. C md for evaluation. May need dds or ENT for this. Could be other.C m d.

Migraine : Your symptoms sound like that you may be having a migraine. See your local pcp. At about 2 weeks the persistent symptoms do start to become concerning.

Can't be exact about: The cause of headaches because there are several major types, e.g., vascular, sinus, muscular, tension, etc.
Please see you doc so he/she can examine you and give you the proper treatment for the type of headache you have.  Yes, dietary change can produce temporary headaches, i.e., withdrawing from sugar, additives, etc.  Peace and good health.
