Usually not: If you were also using topical medications they make make your acne worse before it gets better.Ooral antibiotics usually take 3 months for maximal efficacy.

It can: Not only does the Doxycycline suppress the bacteria that cause acne, it exhibits an modest antiinflammatory effect.  Coming off of it may lead to an acne flare, but that is not guaranteed.

Resume Rx: Acne is a chronic disease and antibiotics only keep it at bay. Truth be told, your physician might have done well to warn you that your acne will return when you discontinue you therapy, until you reach the age when you've outgrown it.

Not neccessarily: Acne can worsen initially with the use of certain topicals , particularly with the retinoids. Oral treatment with antibiotics such as doxycline should improve your acne over time.

It's unlikely: since the Doxycycline is NOT BEING USED as an ANTIBIOTIC rather a non-specific ant-acne effect!! It IS true however that resistant organisms might develop and cauuse trouble elsewhere THUS it's a good idea to talk with your DErMATOLOGIST about alternative/complimentary  methods to treat your acne!

Speak with your doct: If doxycycline is not helping after 2 wks you need to follow up with your dermatologist. There a lot other options particularly local creams &amp; gels.

i have acne and been on doxycycline hyclate 50mg once/day for ~6-7 weeks. acne progressively getting worse :(.. is it from my alcohol toner i started?

Low dose: A starting dose for Doxycycline for acne is often several times this much. In addition, topical benzoyl peroxide plus topical Clindamycin might be added. Or the oral contraceptive pill, if appropriate for you, might clear you. Good luck.

: Doxycycline is standard treatment for acne. You should improve slowly over time. It is not a purge and if you are becoming worse it may not be the right treatment for you. See your doctor as you may require a change. Good Luck

May not: You need to give it try. It is imperative that you use an alternative method of contraception if you are sexually active. You may consider getting an IUD before stopping bc. It would be useful to consult your doctor who prescribed BC as s/he knows your health history better.
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

my 14-year old daughter had mild acne and begs taking doxycycline and tretinoin mid-november.  her acne is getting worse.  should she continue?

I think so: This may take 8 weeks to work. She may add topical benzoyl peroxide unless her physician thinks this is a poor idea. One fact that some people do not realize is that milk and antacids and iron deactivate tetracycline if taken near the same time. Best wishes.
