Absolutely: Remaining hydrated, is the best way to have soft stools, which will prevent straining to defecate.  If dehydrated, stools tend to be hard and difficult to stool out, which can cause hemorrhoids, fissures and bleeding when stooling.  A good indicator for hydration is to have your urine as clear as water.

Inflammation : Mucus in your stool may suggest inflammation, which could be acute (colitis) or chronic (Crohn disease or ulcerative colitis).  If it's on and off in a chronic sense then you need an evaluation by a gastroenterologist.

: The most serious thing to check is to be certain this is not bleeding. Black stools can represent bleeding higher in the GI tract. The stools should be checked for microscopic blood and, if positive, a GI doctor should be seen. An EGD and colonoscopy will then likely be needed to find out exactly where there is bleeding and what the diagnosis is-that is, what the etiology of the bleeding is.

: Gastritis - if it causes bleeding can cause black stools, Internal hem. cause red colored blood. Dehydration and blackbeans will not cause black stools. Dark and black stools are different. Darkness can de affected by meds eg Iron and foods. Get stool tested for blood and ask your GI doc to explain any questions

Liver problem.: Loose stools can make you dehydrated, which makes pee darker than normal. But dark pee (Coke-colored) can also be a sign of liver problems. And white or clay-colored stool means liver problems. For these symptoms, a visit to the doctor is in order. Hepatitis (inflammation of the liver) or gallbladder trouble are possible causes for these symptoms.

Acute gastroenteriti: Usually, this viral illness lasts 10-14 days. May not present with fever. Glad emesis has stopped and not dehydrated.
Clear liquid diet (pedialye, water) recommended. Soft foods, no milk products until illness resolves. Depending if traveling, 
if bloody stools, fever develop, see MD for further exploration of bacterial stool infection.
