1 week: You need to stop smoking as this is never a good choice. But for practical purposes you need to remain 1 week at minimum without smoking.

Not sure: I think that cotinoids linger in your tissues a long time, especially in a chronic smoker.  But I am intrigued by the concept of pre employment tobacco screening.  What type of job?

i quit smoking three days ago. i put cigarette smoking as i was quite heavily exposed to it yesterday due to some friends. the phlegm is actually only blocking up my throat. and there seems to be a tickling sensation in my airway? help?

Cough from quitting?: When you first quit smoking, the clearance mechanism of the lungs and bronchi (the mucociliary elevator) starts working again, and this could cause a strong productive cough for as many as two weeks straight.  So assuming you’re not actually sick, this could be the answer.  Given your “weak immune system”, you may want to have a doctor see you to make sure you’re not actually infected.

Social support: Social support helps--your doc or hospital may know of a group for you.  Coffee/tea mugs, cigarettes, all give off a "i'm on a break message" to self and others.  Give yourself permission to take a break/relax w/out that.  Oral habit so mints, gum, etc. Can help.  You can do it and your loved ones will be grateful.

Habit forming/Addict: There is no doubt that even less than weekly smoking in most people leeds to more smoking habit and ultimately addiction in my opinion.But if by occasional smoking you mean occasional cigarette in less than a week and then not smoking later, than there is no risk
but occasional smoking is known to lead to more smoking habit and addiction
so i will advice do not do it.

Smoking- HTN: While smoking has not been conclusively proven to cause high blood pressure, each cigarette you smoke temporarily increases your blood pressure for many minutes after you finish.

Hyperparathyroidism: Smoking causes a lot of head and neck cancers (lips, tongue, esophagus, etc) but not primary hyperparathyroidism (pth), which is a benign overproduction of parathyroid hormone.  Usually PTH is isolated, but rarely it can be found in conjunction with other endocrine disorders of the pituitary, pancreas, or thyroid, called multiple endocrine neoplasia.  Talk to your endocrinologist.

It lowers fertility: Smoking does lower fertility in both men and women. In men, it affects sperm number and strength. Second-hand smoke also lowers fertility in women, so there should be zero smoking in the home or car (open windows don't work).
