worried about a solid lung nodule 4 mm in 2009 and is now 7 mm, non calcified, smooth borders.  rad said it looks like benign soft tissue, possible granuloma.  do non calcified granulomas grow, and could a cancer grow at that growth rate?

Yes and yes.: Get an opinion from pulmonologist or thoracic surgeon regarding opinion about possible biopsy.  It depends whether or not the benefits of biopsy outweigh its risks.

does inflammatory vs malignancy in the remarks of ct scan of lungs with 203cc solid mass mean its cancer?

Accepted Answer

No.: A pneumonia(infammatory) in the lung might look just the same as a lung cancer. In fact if a cancer  blocks a major air tube in the klung, a post obstructive(blockage) pneumonia might result. X-ray dr (radiologist) might not be able to tell the difference betwen the two.

i have 9 mm ground glass opacity in rt upper lobe , 6mm part solid nodule in left lower lobe and 3 other nodules about 3mm . these were just found on lung ct . i am very worried as i smoked my whole life , have a twin sister with lung cancer ?

: All imaging results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests.

No: There is no current technique that can remove asbestos from the body after exposure, other than the body's natural immune and clearance system.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Kras is a gene involved in a pathway that controls cell growth.  A mutationin the kras gene can lead to a propensity to develop lung cancer.  There are several clinical trials that look at inhibitors in that pathway to treat patinets with advanced kras mutant lung cancer.

Genetics: You must have full blood tests done to rule out genetic reasons for PE along with work up for hidden malignancy. Other risk factors are hormonal therapy and long travel / sedentary state and obesity. Ask for hematologist consult. Any cancer is a hypercoagulable state.

Asbestos can also cause mesothelioma, a cancer of the pleura or lining on the surface of the lungand diaphragm.  The main type of lung cancer in nonsmokers is adenocarcinoma, particularly bronchoalveolar carcinoma.

Familiar: Cough, weight loss, chest discomfort, pneumonia, just not feeling well. Smoking, smoking, asbestos exposure, maybe radon exposure especially if you smoke, working in a uranium mine, smoking, certain chemicals such as chromates in the workplace, urban pollution maybe, passive smoking (i've autopsied two wives who died from living in smoke-filled homes with stogie-puffing husbands.).
