Risk factors: Smoking, oral contraceptives, and migraines together can increase stroke risk, but so can heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, high blood fats, increased homocysteine, and obesity.  If one is merely 10-20 lbs overweight without the other risk factors, should be just fine to use bcp.

Bllod clots: Increased levels of estrogen and Progesterone can cause the blood to become "thicker" and more likely to clot. Both stroke and heart attack are caused by blood clots. There is also and increased risk of blood clots in the leg veins (DVT) and in the pulmonary arteries(pulmonary embolism or pe).

Yes: Birth control has hormones that can increase the risk for stroke. It's one of the well known complications. That risk is multiplied if you also smoke. However in young healthy nonsmoking individuals that overall risk is still pretty low.

Correlations: There is a distinct increase in risk of a stroke in those women who have a history of migraine with aura (classical migraine) who take birth control pills and also smoke.  Why spend huge sums of money, get exposed to lung cancer or copd, or early heart disease, or as above, a stroke, and destroy your life?
If you or close one smokes, get it stopped.

Some risk- but small: It is a very small risk, but estrogen increases the risk of blood clotting, which could result in a heart attack or stroke.  This is very rare, and should not be considered a risk for an otherwise healthy person.

Do not use birth control that contains estrogen and smoke.  This combination is harmful.  You do not smoke, so there should be no problem.

Many options: If you have a familiar clotting disorder then pregnancy is much more high risk than birth control. Consider getting tested to see if you are a carrier of these genetic disorders. Progesterone only methods such as Skyla, Mirena (levonorgestrel) and Nexplanon are still options. A hormone free Paragard copper IUD is another. You could also use condoms as an option.

Slightly: The answer is a bit more complex.  All birth control pills slightly increase your risk for blood clots.  Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) and yasmin, have a Progesterone that has a sligtly higher risk then other birth control pills.  That being said, the risk of blood clots during pregnancy is ten fold higher then this, yet most women don't avoid pregnancy because of that risk.  The fda has not pulled Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) off the market.
