Tessalon : It is not good to combine antihistamine with cough suppressant. Try tessalon perls. Perhaps it is prescription item. You may have to ask PCP to prescribe

Wet and dry cough: Wet cough is usually real phlegm from the lungs that can be expectorated with expectorant and mucolytic. Dry coughs are usually postnasal drip, very little from above that are treated with antihistamines and othe remedies to prevent drip from the sinuses. There you go, the answer is different.

Depends: Antihistamines tend to dry secretions permitting them to thicken &amp; become harder to bring up naturally or with a cough. Some do this more than others. Many of the newer 1/day antihistamines seem less likely to do so. This is something you can try for a while &amp; see how it works for you. I find it a benefit for many with this condition.

No: Not contradiction, rather complementing each other, antihistamines act as cough suppressants besides help decrease excessive secretions, expectorants rather loosen the thick secretions helping to get rid of them, that's why plain water is the best expectorant

Cough, no fever?'s: A sustained cough w/o fever in today's pandemic may indicate Covid infection.  Get tested if possible, but even if test is negative, quarantine of yourself and other family members is advised for at least 10 days.  If respiratory symptoms increase, go to an emergency room site for exam, as hospitalization may be necessary.

Fever, dehydration: These start as viral infections, the worries come from 2ndary bacterial infection.  Alternate doses of tylenol and ibuprofen (dont use other OTCs) every 4 hours and if he still has fevers higher than 100.5F (38C) after 24 hours, persistent vomiting, or profound diarrhea, see his doctor or go to the ER. Antihistamines won't help a 3 year old and side effects will confuse the picture. Hydrate!

See docsee doctor: You may need to see allergist and ENT doctors to find out. I would see ENT first then if they felt allergist could help they would refer you.
