It can be: The face haws may nerves that are a short distance from the brain, an infection can affect the whole side of your face, causing swelling, pain, headaches, discomfort and numbness if it gets too close to an area by a nerve. The danger is that if left untreated the infection can easily spread into the brain area and cause extreme damage. Call your dentist now or go to the er.

Not really: Get to your detist and get the problem resolved properly.  Infection probably is already into your blood stream which although highly unlikely but can kill you.  Dont risk it get to your dentist.

: Antibiotics control the infection but the symptoms may not immediately resolve. The source of the infection needs to be addressed. This tooth will probably need root canal therapy or extraction. The sooner the better.

This can often this be accompanied by fever.
If this continues, bacteria can enter the bloodstream, and/or keep spreading through tissue to vital areas like the heart or brain. Death may result in these advanced situations.
