Not usually: Most throat and and bronchial infections are caused by viruses, which cannot be treated with antibiotics.  In those cases, Amoxicillin is a placebo.  However, it would work if you had strep throat.

Many of these bacteria are also resistant to Amoxicillin as it has been used for so long and on so many people.  It is used to treat strep throat, susceptable enterococcal and e. Coli infections like uti's etc. All drugs have an expiration date on the bottle.

Ureaplasma does not have a cell wall, only cell membrane.

So, penicillins are not used to treat ureaplasma.

AMOX: It can treat syph. But is not good for many other std's that are commonly transmitted with syph.

Not the best choice: Amoxicillin alone is generally ineffective for bacterial sinusitis.  Call your doctor for another one- perhaps augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) (amox-clav).  Another possibility is that the infection is viral and antibiotics aren't going to treat it no matter which one you take.  The vast majority of sinus infections are viral and need to just "run their course".
