STD: No, antibiotics are specific to the type of bacteria suspected as the infective organism and it certainly would not treat viral infection such as Herpes. You need to see your doctor and not just take some antibiotic left over in your or someone else's medicine cabinet.

Not reliable see MD!: Oral or elsewhere makes no difference. All syphilis is very dangerous and the only recommended treatment is penicillin by injection; no oral Rx is reliable. If you might have syphilis or exposed, do not self treat. See a doctor, preferably public health or infectious diseases expert. Do not cut corners; it could be life threatening, especially if HIV positive, as are most US males with syphilis.

hi, i am wondering if i was exposed to syphilis, unlikely, if i took ten days of amoxicillin for strep starting 2 says after possible exposure. they were .875 twice a day for ten days. i was told to not even bother testing for syphilis, is this true ?

No risk, no worry: Amoxicillin in that dose definitely would abort syphilis if you had caught it. It is true there is no point in testing for syphilis:  it takes at least 2-3 weeks of active infection before the blood test can be positive. Don't get tested and don't worry further about it.

i self treated with amoxicillin 3g and 1.5 gram for what i thought was syphilis. i tested negative and still have spots on my body (8wks). is there a non blood test that could test the lesions to prove, i have it so i can receive proper treatment?

: There are two blood tests to detect syphilis: an antibody test and an RPR. Too early after exposure, both could yield a false negative but either test will be positive now if you're still infected. Why are you so sure these "spots" are syphilis cause they're probably not and as long as you think they are, you won't know the real diagnosis. See a doctor for a full history, physical, and diagnosis.

i finished taking amoxicillin a week before my sti test. the results were negative for chlamydia syphilis gonorrhoea. would i need to another test?

No: If your tests for chlmaydia and gonorrhea were negtative, regardless of recent antibiotic use, then you have every reason to believe that you are negative for those stis.  Good luck.

: The recommended treatment for syphilis is injectable penicillin. Amoxicillin is rarely used and much bigger doses are needed to eradicate the infection.

: All these results are conclusive. Amoxicillin and usually azithromycin abort or cure syphilis. For sure you have neither HIV nor syphilis. Stop testing.

Syphilis: Doxycycline can be a cure to syphilis but it is not the most effective treatment. There is a special Penicillin known as Bicillin or Penacillin G that at 2.4 million units is 100% curative. Syphilis is experienced in three phases but there are often no symptom between phases.  Blood testing and antibody titer monitoring are the norms for making sure the treatment was effective.

Never too late to Rx: Syphilis progresses in 3 stages, the  initial sore, the blood borne spirochete, and finally crossing the blood brain barrier.   Unlike the carol king song "it's too late" from her tapestry album, we rarely see 3rd stage disease because it is usually caught and treated prior to infiltrating the brain. Can that happen in 9 untreated  months? It depends on the hosts' resistance and the rapidity of rx.

Depends: What is the cause of the cough? If from a community acquired pneumonia, then Amoxicillin could be an effective treatment. However, if the cause is not infectious, then Amoxicillin will not do anything. Find the cause of the cough and treat, don't just treat the symptom.
