Larger area of 3rd degree burn requires surgical debridement on a larger scale, hence surgery.

This is by definition full thickness skin loss that left untreated can lead to infection, damage to underlying structures (such as tendons), loss of function from scar contractures, and even death depending on the size. If you have a 3rd degree burn really of any size you should be seen by a health professional with significant burn experience.

Burn: Apparently it is ok, as long as there is no pus and no surrounding erythema, but if you see pus , you develop fever, pain, increasing redness around the scar , you will need to see a doctor.
