Lots of things.: Causes range from enlarged lymph node, cyst, abscess, enlarged thyroid, and scar tissue, to a tumor.  It's best to have the doctor evaluate it.

It depends,,,: It depends on other tests and what they showed if the doctor did them.  For example, an iodine uptake test may be done for a thyroid with nodules and depending on the results there may not have been a need for an aspiration of the nodule.  It also depends on what was being looked for, cancer or another disease so more info. Like the aspiration results is likely needed.  Best of luck.

Lateral SCM presses: Side to side and front to back movements with weights will give you added muscle strength. Sit-ups, with your neck held up with also improve, besides doing exercises for the traps. However, overall conditioning and strengthening will add to these muscles as part of your preparation for sports or continuation in sports. Wear a helmet!

Other lumps, especially if they are growing, will need evaluation with an x-ray, ultrasound, or scan. In some cases, a biopsy may be needed.

Hard to say: Unless an exam, lab work and possibly biopsy is done it is hard to give a probability of whether this is cancer. Characteristics of something cancerous are fixed masses, large, painful in nature. Should there be more concern please see your doctor for more answers.

See a Doctor: A neck mass can be serious so please get checked.  I can't tell what a mass is unless i examine a patient and that is hard to do over the internet.  It could be a swollen lymph node and that could be from an infection or from cancer so don't fool around.  Good luck!

Relax, Jane: At age 22, almost everyone has a few neck nodes. The worrisome ones are growing rapidly, and are either obviously abnormal, are stuck the surrounding stuff, or feel like tire-rubber or rock. They're not stable masses. At age 22, my submental node was the size of a shooter marble and I used it to put other folks at ease. Best wishes.
