Not usually: Though the reflux associated with some hernias will often feel like it is difficult to breathe.  Weight on the other hand can cause breathing problems and worsen the hiatal hernia symptoms.  Losing weight and increasing activity may help both of your problems.  Still, if they are not improving or worsening you should see an md.

is it likely that someone with an umbilical hernia (that's not visible or causing problems) will cause major problems in the future?

Possible: overtly large umbilical hernias are less likely to get trapped with gut and strangulate, while not visible ones may and lead to vague symptoms of nausea/vomit and poorly localized pain. Suggest MD to discuss, assess and determine treatment plan depending on your symptoms and objective findings.

i had a herniac surgery in 2007 & now in 2014 i came to know that i have hernia again. in my last surgery no mesh was used for repairing the problem & my size of herniac sac has increased since 2014, can masturbation be a possible cause for this increment

NO: Small percentage of hernias do recur &gt; At 12 yr old only sac was removed , now repair of the weakened floor will be done , get it done as soon as possible to prevent complications

Very unlikely: If the hernia is small and reducible (you can push it back in) it is unlikely to cause problems. If the hernia ever causes you pain or you cannot push it back in, that needs to be evaluated by a physician right away.

Possibly: In the case of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, there is usually some degree of pulmonary hypoplasia (lung underdevelopment) which can lead to chronic pulmonary problems. In addition, there is some risk of hernia recurrence which would cause pulmonary problems from the abdominal organs herniating through the diaphragm into the chest and compressing the lung(s).

Hiatal hernia: The hiatal hernia can be safely observed. If it ever becomes large (paraesophageal hernia), it will likely take 20 years or more, and is unlikely to happen. The globus sensation (something sticking in throat) is poorly understood, and not treatable, but also not dangerous. Try keeping a log of what makes it worse, and avoid those food items. No, although: While a hernia cannot "cause" heart problems, it can sometimes feel like you are having heart problems when you experience the pain associated with some hiatal hernias. You may feel that burning pain in your chest or a tightness feeling, and that can be mistaken for cardiac symptoms. Talk with doc about which are which.
