Your : Your thyroid situation needs to be thoroughly evaluated. The vascular rims per se are not in and of themselves serious. If there is increased blood flow inside the nodules, that would be more worrisome. However, your symptoms indicate there could be significant thyroid problems which would need to be addressed soon. I suggest you see an endocrinologist.

Usually not: Goiters usually grow out, not in, and do not affect vocal cords, trachea, or esophagus.  Sometimes, big nodular goiters in the elderly can do this, but not usually.  However, if the goiter is producing either hyper or hypothyroidism, that can certainly affect the vocal cords.  Hypothyroidism could turn you from an alto into a tenor.... Or more.

Cause??: If a goiter is the result of anti-thyroid antibodies and your thyroid function is normal, there isn't much to be done.  It will eventually go down on its own as long as thryoid function is kept normal.  If from over/under active thyroid, medication may help.  Multinodular goiters are more complicated and may need surgery.  Other reasons also, so please discuss cause/treatment options with doctor.

Thyroiditis: You may have thyroiditis.  There are several forms: some resolve by themselves, and others go on and need treatment.  Symptomatic treatment may help (eg. Ibuprofen) but it is important to get to the cause, and you should see an endocrinologist.

Goiter: Thyroid nodules and goiters are slow growing and take years to grow. However, there could be a more rapid increase in size due to tumors, inflammation, pregnancy, bleeding within the nodules, or thyrotoxicosis (hyper functioning gland). For this reason, once diagnosed, most physicians recommend thyroid nodules/goiters be monitored with annual examination and thyroid ultrasound.

Diagnosis: Were you diagnosed by GP or Endocrinologist?  If so, did the prescribe a course of effective treatment?  If not, make an appointment now.  If the homeopathic you are taking is not working, why do you continue to take it?

Small nodules: Thyroid nodules are quite common. If they are small and not causing swallowing or breathing problems, you can monitor them with periodic ultrasound and biopsy if they grow or changing significantly. Most likely your friend nodules are still small so the specialist opted to just follow them.

Some are caused: By iodine deficiency, which is a reason for iodinized table salt...Those lacking seafood in the midwest and near west used to be so afflicted.  Taking exogenous thyroid hormone (thyrolar, synthroid) may turn off TSH stimulation and reduce/diminish growth, but that is treatment rather than prevention.
