Home pregnancy tests should be done 4-5 days after the missed period. If the result is negative repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow instructions for the test carefully.

How high?: How high are the HCG levels? 100? 100, 000? Lots of possible answers depending on how high level is, can range from simple thigns like looking too early, to concerns about ectopic/tubal pregnancy. Keep in close touch with your doctor until this is resolved, and good luck!

Life is not perfect: And life is not exact.  If a test says pregnant, and there are no symptoms of pregnancy, just recheck another test.  If a test says not pregnant, but there are plenty of pregnancy symptoms, just recheck another test.  However, the blood test at one month after sex (with no sex since that event) is almost always correct.

Not wrong: If you got pregnant around 11.16.13 +/- a few days then it makes sense that your bhcg would not have been positive quite yet around that time. Why does it matter though? The sonogram gives you a very accurate conception date so worry about the blood test is not likely to be fruitful.
