Aspirate/ shot: A bakers cyst is a pocket of fluid that accumulates behind the knee. It tends to 
fluctuate in size with activity.
It often is related to some intra-articular pathology.
If there is a large amount of fluid i occasionally drain it or use a cortisone injection
often when I do an arthroscopy for a problem
the cyst will disappear for awhile.

Joint arthritis : Usually not painful but osteoarthritis is usually there as well and to prevent worsening of damage to your joints see your primary care physician and get evaluation and treatment, he or she will get you relief

If you want to rule: Out a blood clot you do a venous duplex which will show you if a clot is present. I am not sure what blood test can do that....

Baker`s cyst: Baker`s cyst will not cause swelling in the leg. The cause of ankle swelling is probably venous insufficiency which is diagnosed with doppler and ultrasound studies. Baker`s cyst discomfort might persist, in which  ace you might consider surgery.

Hamstring tendinitis: You are probably having some trouble with hamstring tendinitis and that is why the ultrasound did not see it. It is basically inflammation of the hamstring tendons attaching to the outer-back areas of your knee, just as you described. I would re-consult doc for a closer look/exam to confirm. In some case, posterior horn tear (meniscal tear) may cause such pain as well. Consult doc, good luck.

Yes strange!: A Baker's cyst is often associated with internal derangement of the knee and a "rupture" releases some joint fluid but this should NOT affect your foot and ankle. You need to see an Orthopedist or Sport's Medicine Specialist for an evaluation of your symptoms sooner rather than later!

It : It is actually the other way around. A meniscal tear causes the baker's cyst. The collagen fibers of the meniscus are arranged in a parallel arrangement and a tear creates a communication with the capsule and serves as a one way valve to create the cyst.

: An ultrasound will determine the presence or not of a Baker’s cyst. Majority of cysts are associated with damage in the joint and that will be best defined by MRI.

Baker's cyst : Aspiration if the cyst is large and symptomatic. Small cysts with no symptoms may clear on its own.
