Caffeine taper: I never recommend abrupt cessation of caffeine, because the headaches can be very severe and impair normal function. Cutting back on caffeine gradually, by eliminating one serving a day every 3-4 days, so if you drink 6 cups of coffee (week 1 - 5 cups for 3 days, 4 cups for 4 days, week 2 - 3 cups for 3 days, 2 cups for 4 days) etc. Will taper you off over a couple of weeks, and that is best way.

Yes: Use an appropriate taper plan. To reduce withdrawal sxs from caffeine hydrate well with at least 8 – 8 ounce glasses of water per day. Eat healthy but small meals every several hours. Sleep at least 7 to 8 hours per night. Remain physically active. You can use otc pain relievers (that do not contain caffeine) for muscular aches & pain or headaches.

Yes: Caffeine withdrawal can drag on quite a long time. There is a headache that can go on for days (or not happen at all.) the biggest symptom i've seen is fatigue, especially after the kind of doses you've been using. Hang in there. Eventually your sleep pattern and your alertness will normalize and you will be much better off than you were. Your stomach will thank you.

Flu like sxs: Caffeine withdrawal sxs can last a up to two weeks & can begin 12 to 36 hours after you stop caffeine use. Symptoms can include nervousness, irritability, low mood, mood swings, feeling tired, headaches, poor concentration, nausea, vomiting & muscular aches & pains.

Not related: The half life is 12 hours. It is cleared, unchanged, in the urine. In 5 half lives, the medicine is 97% excreted.  At one month, there wouldn't be a trace of it in your system. Look for  a different cause for your symptoms.

was on effexor (venlafaxine) for 10 years. helped with dizziness.  stopped 3 yrs ago and still get frequent brain zaps (withdrawal symptoms). why would i still get?

Not withdrawal: If you stopped the Effexor (venlafaxine) 3 years ago, the " frequent brain zaps" are not withdrawal symptoms. You may need referral to a neurologist to look into the cause and suggest a treatment. Hope this helps.
