Bugs: When this happens, you should think of abnormal amounts of bacteria in your stomach and/or small intestine. An assessment using a lactulose breath test by your doctor can provide some answers. You may have a sluggish motility of the stomach and/or the small bowel that will need treatment.

i am experiencing  burping, mucus in stool and abnormal urine stream. my burps taste minty and my urine smells like penicillin. i am not taking penicillin, what could cause these abnormalities.?

See a doctor: Most likely no single health problem is causing all these symptoms. Strong urine odor usually means dehydration, i.e. not taking in enough fluids. Other symptoms may be irritable bowel syndrome. Best to see a doctor and stop trying to figure it out on your own or through online resources. Good luck!

Several causes: You may have reflux disease  caused by stomach acid washing up into your mouth. Inability to digest food properly may also cause bad breath. Sinus or throat infections may also cause halitosis (bad breath). Medications and herbal remedies can affect  how breath smells.

Bowel rest: Start with 24 hours of fluids only -no usual food items.
Then start the Brat diet. B for bannanas, rice, applesauce, tea and toast. This is a soft diet to let the bowel rest and heal itself.
If you still have diarrhea can take Imodium over the counter from the pharmacy. If still having the runs see a doctor for stool culture and sensitiviy testing at the lab. Michigan water supply should be fine.

Contact your doctor: Doxycycline can upset your digestive tract.  Best to see your doctor for evaluation.  If due to the medication it can be changed to another.  If not due to the doxycycline, then it will need to be investigated.

Unrelated: The odor of your stomach or intestinal gas has nothing to do with your LP, blood patch, or previous headache. Entirely separate problems. Discuss with your doctor.

have had fluffy ragged edged poop on and off for a few weeks now, light brown colored. have also bad a metallic smell to my poop for about a month. no visual signs of blood in stool. some stomach gurgling/belching. what could cause the smell?

Diet?: Most of the time, the smell and appearance of the stool is related to something being ingested. So, are you eating or drinking something different since the smell changed? If so, try eliminating that and see if the smell goes away. Your doctor can also test your stool for microscopic blood that you wouldn’t be able to see. Go to GI: It may be a symptom of bacterial overgrowth, too much methane gas in the gut causing horrible taste or backup in the bowel or other things. Time to see a doctor for full evaluation. Good luck
