Those darn ankles: Sounds to me like you have done some degree of damage to the soft tissue that envelops the ankle. There could also be some bone damage. I strongly suggest that you seek professional advice and treatment to minimize the possible effects of your injury.

: Hi,

This could just be tendons snapping against the bone with movement. It could also be subluxating peroneal tendons behind the fibula on the outer aspect of the ankle.

If it is painful or persistent a visit with an orthopedic surgeon is warranted.

what do i do to help heal my injury? i believe it's a pulled tendon in my foot that's between my big toe and my ankle. i can't move my big toe up without pain, its slightly bruised and hurts to move. i'm an athlete, want to make sure its not serious.

Serious exam.: It is difficult to determine the extent of your injury without an examination. The injury to a tendon can cover a wide range of damage. It all starts with a hands on exam and could include imaging and even surgery.

: And that much information was given concerning the straining of your ankle as far as which ligaments were involved. However the bruising is in consequential. Bruising indicates  bleeding somewhere from the injury. Being able to step on your toes without pain and discomfort is usually a good indication For good ankle stability. Try hopping on it. If no pain ankle should be OK

A few possibilities: Could be tendinitis (there are many tendons that extend the ankle at this site).  Could also be a nerve injury, or nerve irritation (the common peroneal nerve could be affected).  Best to go see a foot specialist, who will examine you and give you a proper diagnosis/treatment.

Yes: Mri is a good diagnostic tool, but not always exact.  Therefore radiologists and physicians will sometimes see different things when it is close to what the diagnosis could be.  Your physician will have the advantage of having your foot in front of him to confirm the MRI results with his clinical findings.  The radiologist doesn't have this luxury.
