No, it is not that s: Second hand smoke can cause lung cancer but it is uncommon and takes more than 20 years of heavy(daily ) exposure. You are fine.... just quit worrying about this issue. get outdoors and get daily exercise....you will then feel wonderful!

Call your Dr!: I do not know your age or other important things about your history but chest pain is almost always a reason to call your regular medical doctor at least the first time to get the whole thing sorted out.

It depends.: It depends on a few things:
1) where it is in the lung, whether in the periphery or near the large airways;
2) what type of lung cancer it is (some are known to spread very early and quickly, others less so);
3) what the health of the person was beforehand (people with early copd, for example, may have breathing difficulty with lung cancer much earlier than someone without any other problems).

Depends: It is good that you are exercising vigorously. Indoors or outdoors may not matter much. If one site has more polluted air, it would be better to avoid that site. Not knowing about the ambient air pollution and indoor air quality where you live, it is not feasible to make a recommendation.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex, if you have sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

Workup: I trust you are not a smoker. This may be whooping cough -- it's up to your physician to consider a trial of antibiotics. It's worth asking whether you need a chest x-ray. That'll pick up almost all lung cancers that are big enough to give you a cough. You may also have unmasked adult-onset asthma -- a trial of an inhaled bronchodilator that helps the cough would establish the diagnosis.

Non specific sxs: there are many conditions can give you the same presentation like you described. - for instance, bronchial asthma, anxiety, plus minus anemia, muskuloskeletal problem, pleurisy etc.  although it is possible, you are a bit too young for lung cancer. other conditions are more common . you should see your MD to get checked. some imaging like  CXR or CT  lung can show if there is mass in the lung etc.

She needs a doctor!: Diotomaceous earth contains very fine particles called silica, which can be inhaled and cause lung irritation. However, this doesn't cause sudden symptoms. Since your mother is breathing differently and she has lung cancer, she needs to see her cancer doctor as soon as possible. It probably has nothing to do with the diatomaceous earth and everything to do with her underlying lung cancer.
