URI: Sounds like an upper respiratory infection or acute bronchitis serious enough for antibiotics.  Levaquin (levofloxacin) is good choice both for bacterial URI and/or sinusitis.  Also get OTC expectorant/mucolytic for the productive cough.  I recommend Robitussin PE or any combo of guafenesin and decongestant.

See your doc: Certainly you're not suggesting the problem is you quit smoking?  It's ragweed season, it's likely you're worse because of that.  You could also have a viral upper respiratory infection or other new problem.  You need to be evaluated for allergies, asthma, bronchitis, etc.  Great job for quitting smoking, it was only going to become more addictive.

Bloody mucous: Sinusitis, adenoiditis and nasal allergy would be the most common causes/ much rarer causes would include inhaled foreign body, varoius pneumonias and tuberculosis.

Once the cause is found, then specific treatment options can be offered.  Cough with mucus can be symptoms of lung infection, asthma, sinus infection, even allergies.  An allergist or pulmonologist can assist in finding the cause and offering treatment recommendations!

Need antibiotics: Sounds like you have developed a bacterial bronchitis. Sometimes is can start as a viral infection which then develops into a secondary bacterial superinfection - i would recommend seeing your doctor for evaluation and probably rx for a course of antibiotic.

Cold: There are sources of blood, like the stomach, the lungs and the nose and posterior pharynx. In time of cold or upper respiratory infection, there is mucous which is thicker than the plasma. This draws the fluid from the blood vessels in the nose and the pharynx which are to the surface and they can pop and hence you cough up blood. If possible other causes, please go see your doctor.

It's possible : It is certainly possible. As you are presumably young and healthy your body should fight the flu off quite nicely. Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids and get a good amount of sleep and you can take over-the-counter medications for symptomatic relief.

Uri: Not necessarily a chronic bronchitis. Being in contact with small kids you are exposed to viruses and other germs contracted by kids. Probably it is a good option that you take the flu shot every year to minimize the risk of flu also. The cough sometimes stays for long time after we get any respiratory  infection.

More testing needed: You can have cough-variant asthma or allergy-induced asthma. You should see an allergist or pulmonologist. They can do a lung function test and test you for allergies.
