Breast tenderness: As the hormones change throughout the menstrual cycle the breast prepare for pregnancy then relax and the cycle repeats.  This is usually about a 2 week on-off type of cycle but some women have breast tenderness for longer pre menstrual times. This may be normal for you. Talk with your gynecologist about it.

Breast swelling/pain: There are many causes of breast swelling and pain. See your doctor this week for an exam and further evaluation.

Suggest: if it is "possible" that you obtain an OTC (over the counter ) Pregnancy test. (and repeat in 7-10 days if your period does not arrive!

If NOT pregnant it sound like you are having an anovulatory (no egg released) cycle with high estrogen levels (thus the breast tenderness)

Hormones: It's not well understood but has to do with how the glands in your breast react to the estrogen and Progesterone produced after ovulation. Some women may have a slight imbalance. Some breast may react  more strongly to these hormones than others.

Unknown : Breast tenderness can be caused by hormonal fluctuations, weight gain, dietary changes, caffeine intake and others. Schedule a visit  for a breast exam if concerned.

Could be pregnant: Home pregnancy tests are easy to do, fast, and highly accurate. It is hard to tell from your discription, but those could be signs/symptoms of early pregnancy. Do a hpt. If pos, congrats. If neg, repeat in a few days. Either way, eat well, exercise regularly. Take your prenatals if u r pregnant or trying to. Consult doc.  Best of luck to you.

Symptoms appear before your period starts (as much as five days) and will disappear during your period. Affecting both body and brain, their intensity can also vary wildly from woman to woman.

Accepted Answer

Pregnancy test: I would check a pregnancy test as your symptoms could be related to a new pregnancy.  Otherwise it could be PMS symptoms that you are having.
