Different things: Usually they inject a contrast for breast mri. The contrast goes thru your circulation. A white spot could be a blood vessel, an area of inflammation, a benign or a malignant tumor growth. An expert radiologist can differentiate the finding. Please ask your physician for a full report which was issued by the reading radiologist.

had deep ache in up back in one spot for over 2 yrs, i have had right breast ultrasound it was ok, mam ok. spine mri ok. shoud i get mri of breast?

Not necessary: It is unlikely the pain in your back is related to your breasts as long as other tests were normal.  Hope the MRI of the spine was your neck. If not you might consider that.  But you should talk to your doctors ad always to help find the cause

will affected lymph nodes show up on a bilateral breast mri?

Accepted Answer

No: We cannot tell if a node has cancer within it in the us.  In eurpoe they have a special agent which goes into the nodes. They can sometimes tell if a node has cancer in the node.  It is used there more for staging of colon cancer. 

The breast MRI is to detect cancer in your breasts - not the nodes.  Of course it can see nodes as enlarged but they can be enlarged from infection and inflamamtion.

No: Radiologists say that one of the disadvantages of breast MRI is that its specificity appears is moderate (not high), although the specificity (specificity =  % of abnormal lesions that are actually cancer) has been hard to determine. Published reports give specificity values of 37% to 97%, depending on the selection of both the MRI technique and the criteria for determining cancer.

breast mri shows mass that is taller than wide, and in the color ones, all are at the higher end of the color spectrum.  could this be bad?

Taller than: wide is usually a descriptor used with ultrasound, and is a feature that implies a higher level of suspicion.  I'm not clear on your description of the color mapping/enhancement pattern.  If it is red, that usually indicates a "washout" pattern, which implies a higher level of suspicion..

can fibroadipose tissue of breast show as a large nonmass hetrogeneous enhancement  on breast mri of birad 4. if not what cancer is likely to?

Ask your doctor: Your question is basically is this or is it not cancer? I think you can have a heterogeneous mass on scan with either cell type you mention, that will only truly be resolved by biopsy of the tissue, unless the radiologist and oncologist agree on their findings and don't need a biopsy, which is rare. Check with your  doctors for the next step, which may be a biopsy

breast mri of non mass is 4.7cm6.1cm ap3.9cm big. have small breasts does this mean chest wall invasion ?would mri show that ? if cancer

Accepted Answer

It doesn't mean: there is chest wall invasion(MRI would show it), and it doesn't mean you have cancer.  Depending on other MR features, and assuming no mammogram, ultrasound, or palpable abnormalities, non mass enhancement is most likely to be benign.  It may need biopsy, however, due to the small chance of malignancy.

i quit smoking over 15+ years ago but am scheduled for my yearly low dosage ct lung scan. am very anxious. is it likely for a breast mri (which i had 2 mnths ago) show growth(s) on lungs as an incidental finding?

: A breast MRI is done in patients where a digital mammogram coupled with fibrocystic changes may not be conclusive.  This kind of MRI may show lung abnormalities, but proceed with your "annual CT scan" to be as certain as possible about lung manifestations of long term nicotine exposure.

Not typically: There are hundreds of images to review and careful correlation to perform with prior studies. I would give your breast specialist one-two days for the reading and then call the ordering provider to discuss results.

do breast mri's ever have a false positive reading?

Accepted Answer

Yes: The strength of the bmri is it's sensitivity.  It's unlikely to miss anything abnormal.  The downfall is that they are so sensitive they may demonstrate things that aren't cancer.  Bmris are very sensitive to hormones.  To maximize the sensitivity and specificity, a screening study should be scheduled at the low phase of menstrual cycle or off HRT for 30 days.
