can bowel changes caused by your period occur before your period actually starts? or do they only happen once it starts?

: Many physiological issues are affected around the period and some occur before the flow. If it is constipation- You may take a fiber laxative like Metamucil and drink enough water daily so that your urine is colorless. For the long term you may try to increase your intake of fiber foods.

Abdominal pain: May be gastritis /esophagitis, or gallbladder ( did you have an ultrasound?),  or irritable bowel,  would also check ovaries, F/u/ w/ MD

Many women have some variation of mucus discharge, of periods, or a missed period on occasion. Some women feel normal after a few days but others have bothersome symptoms and follow-up with a doctor. Hormone fluctuations can lead to some inflammation (with cramping) as the uterine lining is shed.

Prob not serious: This was probably just the dregs of your period, but if it continues, it could represent a bladder infection. If there are frequency and burning on urination it would best to see your health provider.

Some normal or not!: Yes, when the period starts there are higher levels of certain hormones, and this can cause either loose stools or cramps, or even constipation. Some of this is normal, but in endometriosis it may cause pain with BMs, severe cramps after passing stool, or even diarrhea and painful BMs. 
If you are concerned then see your doctor for more testing.

Possible: Can be form the incrased prostagladin production, but if they are nor normal in consistency or color or any blood then u need an exavulation , or if u do not wantthem that often then your doc may be able to get you on a med for that.

Endometriosis: Your symptoms  may be associated with a condition knob as endometriois. Endometrium is the tissue lining the uterus which you shed every month with your menstration. When this tissue grows outside the uterus is called endometriosis.  The tissue goes through cyclic hormonal changes. Your symptoms coul be associated with endometriosis involving the sigmoid colon.
